Product Description

The 5UB1936 is the aluminum metallic DELTA i-system Schuko socket with built-in overvoltage protection — the silver-toned counterpart to the carbon metallic 5UB1926. It combines transient voltage suppression, a dual-function status display, and an integrated labeling field in a single 55×55mm flush-mount insert.

What does the integrated overvoltage protection actually do?

The socket uses a varistor-based circuit to clamp transient voltage spikes directly at the socket face. When a surge enters the branch circuit — from switching operations, nearby lightning activity, or grid disturbances — the varistor shunts the excess energy to ground before it reaches connected equipment. This is Type 3 point-of-use protection per IEC 60364-5-53: it handles the residual let-through energy that upstream Type 2 panel-mount SPDs do not fully clamp. The socket does not replace upstream surge protection but complements it, providing the last meter of defense for sensitive loads like IT equipment, AV systems, and home office electronics.

What does the function display indicate?

The front-facing LED shows two states: green confirms the socket is live and the protection circuit is intact; off means either mains power is absent or the varistor has sacrificed itself and protection is lost. The socket continues delivering power even when the protection circuit has failed — the LED going dark is the signal to replace the insert. Varistors degrade incrementally with each surge event, so the display eliminates guesswork about whether the protection is still functional.

How does the 5UB1936 differ from the carbon metallic 5UB1926?

The two are electrically and mechanically identical — same varistor-based overvoltage protection, same dual-function LED, same labeling field, same screwless terminals, same 10/16A 250V rating. The sole difference is the finish: 5UB1936 uses aluminum metallic (~RAL 9006 white aluminum) and weighs 112g, while 5UB1926 uses carbon metallic (~RAL 7016 anthracite grey) at 115g. The 3g difference is cosmetic — paint formulation and coating thickness. Choose based on which finish matches your existing DELTA i-system frames.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the socket still deliver power if the overvoltage protection fails?

Yes. The varistor is wired in parallel, not in series with the output. If the protection element fails, the socket continues supplying 230V — but without surge suppression. The function display goes dark to signal the protection loss. Replace the insert to restore surge protection.

Is this a child-safe socket?

No. The 5UB1936 does not have a child safety shutter (Kinderschutz) — that is a mechanical spring barrier requiring simultaneous dual-pin insertion. It does not have increased touch protection (erhöhter Berührungsschutz per VDE 0620) either — the contacts are standard recessed, not shrouded behind insulating material. For a touch-protected aluminum metallic socket with overvoltage protection, see the 5UB1942.
