Product Description
The ALFI NFC Eye is a mobile-device-based NFC access control system that transforms a standard smartphone or tablet into a portable access validation point. Unlike fixed wall-mounted readers, the NFC Eye operates wherever an operator can carry a mobile device — car parks, bus fleets, event entrances, and aircraft boarding areas — reading NDEF-formatted tags and validating them against a remote cloud whitelist in real time.
How does mobile NFC access control work?
The NFC Eye software runs on any NFC-equipped Android, iOS, or Windows Phone device. When the operator presents the device to an NDEF tag embedded in a pass, ticket, or credential, the application reads the tag data and queries the cloud server for whitelist status. The server responds with an authorization decision — validate, deny, or flag — and the tag can be obliterated to prevent reuse. All communication is optimized for low-bandwidth 2G and 3G networks, ensuring reliable operation in remote parking lots or moving vehicles where connectivity is limited.
Where is the NFC Eye deployed?
The system targets applications where installing fixed access control readers is impractical or cost-prohibitive: parking lot entry and exit validation, on-board public transport ticket checks, festival and event gate admission, and aeronautical ground services. An optional IP66-rated weatherproof shell protects the mobile device during extended outdoor operation in rain, dust, and temperature extremes.
What infrastructure does the NFC Eye require?
The system needs only three components: an NFC-enabled mobile device running the reader application, NDEF-formatted tags issued to users, and a Windows PC running the Whitelist Management Client connected to the ALFI cloud server. The management client handles real-time whitelist updates — adding, removing, or modifying authorized passes — which are instantly available to all mobile readers in the field. No on-site server, dedicated network, or fixed power infrastructure is required at the access point.
