How does the flow-sensing safety interlock prevent over-dosing?

A built-in flow detection system monitors sample conductivity and automatically disables all three pumps when the reading drops below approximately 500 µS/cm — indicating that sample flow has stopped. This displays as a "NoFlo" alarm on the 80-character alphanumeric LCD. Without this interlock, a failed sample pump or blocked intake could cause the dosing pumps to inject concentrated nutrients or acid into an empty chamber, creating a hazardous chemical concentration when flow resumes. An emergency shutoff timer provides an additional safety layer by disabling any pump that runs continuously beyond the user-configurable time limit.

How is dosing precision controlled?

Each of the three pumps — Nutrient A, Nutrient B, and pH (acid or alkali, user-selectable) — operates with independently adjustable ON and OFF times of up to 30 minutes. This cycling prevents over-dosing by limiting how much chemical enters the system per cycle. The Conductivity probe includes an integral temperature sensor for automatic temperature compensation (ATC) across all parameters. A quick-dose function allows manual rapid nutrient or pH correction without reprogramming the setpoints.

What optional capabilities does the Plus-Pack add?

The Plus-Pack option upgrades the hydroCHEM-DS with RS232 serial output, data logging of up to 2,300 readings with date/time stamps, user-selectable logging intervals from 1 minute to 24 hours, high/low alarm relays, and extended measurement resolution (0.01 pH, 0.01 mS/cm, 0.01 ppK). A 24-hour calendar clock and one-touch notepad function support GLP-compliant record keeping.
