The EMKO ESM-3710-N is a digital ON/OFF temperature controller designed for panel-mount installation in industrial heating and cooling systems. It combines universal sensor input compatibility with a NEMA 4X-rated enclosure, a 4-digit LED display, and optional RS-485 Modbus RTU communication—all within a compact 76 × 34.5 mm front panel format that fits a standard 71 × 29 mm cut-out. The controller uses ON/OFF (bang-bang) control with selectable heating or cooling function, making it suitable for straightforward temperature regulation tasks where PID control is not required.

Universal Sensor Input & ON/OFF Control

• Multi-Sensor Compatibility: Accepts NTC (10k @ 25 °C), PTC (1000 @ 25 °C), J and K type thermocouples (IEC584.1, ITS90), PT-100, and PT-1000 (IEC751, ITS90) without hardware modification. Temperature ranges span from -50 °C to 999 °C depending on the sensor type selected at time of order.
• Heating or Cooling Selectable: The control output can be configured for either heating or cooling operation via parameter setting. An adjustable temperature offset compensates for sensor placement errors, and set value low/high limit boundaries prevent operators from entering unsafe target temperatures.
• Adjustable Hysteresis: The ON/OFF switching differential (hysteresis) is user-adjustable, allowing the controller to match the thermal inertia of the connected system and reduce unnecessary relay cycling.

Sensor Break Protection — Compressor Safety

• Configurable Fault Response: In the event of a probe defect (sensor break, short circuit, or disconnection), the controller does not simply shut down. The user can configure the output to: (a) operate continuously, (b) stop immediately, or (c) operate periodically at a defined duty cycle. This feature is designed to protect compressors in refrigeration applications by preventing short-cycling during sensor faults.
• Compressor Protection Delays: Built-in time delays prevent the compressor from restarting immediately after a power interruption or setpoint change, reducing the risk of compressor damage due to frequent on/off cycling.
• Adjustable Internal Buzzer: An internal buzzer can be configured to sound when a sensor defect is detected, providing local audible alert without requiring an external alarm device.

RS-485 Modbus RTU & Prokey Programming

• Remote Access (Optional): Models equipped with RS-485 communication support Modbus RTU protocol, enabling remote temperature monitoring, setpoint adjustment, data collection, and control from a PLC, SCADA system, or building management platform.
• Prokey Programming Module: Parameters can be uploaded from the controller to a Prokey module, then downloaded to other ESM-3710-N units—eliminating repetitive manual programming when commissioning multiple controllers across a facility.
• Password Protection: The programming section can be locked with a password to prevent unauthorized changes to control parameters by untrained personnel.

• Standard Panel Cut-out: 71 × 29 mm panel opening, compatible with industry-standard 1/32 DIN size controllers. Two mounting clamps are supplied in the package for secure fixed installation.
• NEMA 4X / IP65 Front Protection: The front panel meets NEMA 4X and IP65 standards, providing protection against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction—suitable for food processing, cold storage, and outdoor enclosure applications where washdown occurs. The rear housing is rated IP20, designed for protected installation inside a control cabinet.
