Product Description
The Terry Ferraris DMC10 (DigitroniK) is a distributed multi-channel temperature controller that combines single-loop accuracy with space-saving DIN-rail mounting. Each module controls 2 or 4 independent temperature loops, using fully programmable inputs that accept thermocouples, RTDs, and analogue voltage/current signals. Multiple modules can be networked together via RS-485 and supplied from a single power source, drastically reducing cabinet wiring.
Multi‑Loop Control Without the PLC Overhead
- True Multi‑Channel Design: Each DMC10 module provides 2 or 4 independent temperature control loops on a single DIN-rail module. Each input is isolated, meaning that a sensor short‑circuit on one channel will not affect the others.
- Programmable Inputs: Each loop can be individually configured to accept thermocouples (TC), resistance temperature detectors (RTD), 0/4‑20 mA current signals, or 0‑10 V voltage signals. Input selection requires no hardware jumpers or module swaps—it is performed entirely through configuration parameters.
- Standalone Operation: The DMC10 does not require a separate CPU or PLC to function. Each module is a fully self‑contained temperature controller that can operate independently. Multiple modules can be networked via RS‑485 for centralised supervision without any single point of control failure.
Simplified Wiring, Fast Commissioning
- Single Supply, Multiple Modules: A single 24 V DC supply can feed up to 15 DMC10 modules connected in series via dedicated power distribution connectors. This reduces the number of power wires required in the cabinet from 30 (one pair per module) to just 2 for the entire row.
- DIN‑Rail Mounting: Modules snap onto standard 35 mm DIN rails. Optional sub‑base available for side-by-side installation without additional wiring.
- PC‑Assisted Calibration: During start‑up, a PC tool can be connected via RS‑485 to monitor temperature trends, perform calibration, and configure the Quick-Fitter algorithm. The trend display allows the commissioning engineer to visually verify that each loop is stable before handing the system over to production.
Quick-Fitter Algorithm and Event Logic
- Quick-Fitter Disturbance Recovery: The Quick-Fitter algorithm rapidly brings the process temperature back to the setpoint after an external disturbance—such as a cooling water fluctuation or a sudden load change. It suppresses excessive oscillations without the need for manual PID retuning.
- AND/OR Event Logic: Digital signals (alarms, status bits, external contacts) can be combined using AND or OR logic to trigger actions such as shutting down a heater or sending an alarm to the supervisory system, eliminating the need for a separate safety PLC.
- CT Input on 2‑Input Models: Current transformer (CT) input enables heater break detection—the controller monitors the load current and triggers an alarm if the current falls below a configurable threshold, indicating a burned‑out heater.
Applications
- Multi‑zone industrial furnaces and ovens
- Plastics extrusion and injection moulding barrel temperature control
- Heat treatment and annealing processes
- Packaging machinery with multiple heating zones
- Environmental test chambers and climate control systems
