Its 80 MHz 32-bit processor — a substantial step up from the 16 MHz MATE/MATE2 generation — drives the graphical LCD, responsive scroll-wheel navigation, and simultaneous Ethernet data serving without perceptible lag.

What can the MATE3 control?

A single MATE3 manages the entire OutBack ecosystem: multiple inverter/chargers (including Radian series), FLEXmax charge controllers, FLEXnet DC battery monitors, and the Hub communication manager. An integrated configuration wizard steps through system setup — battery bank voltage, AC input limits, charge parameters, and generator start/stop criteria — while multi-level password protection locks critical settings from unintended changes.

How does remote monitoring work?

The built-in Ethernet port serves an HTML status dashboard accessible from any browser on the same local network. For internet-based monitoring, the MATE3 connects to OutBack's OpticsRE cloud platform — providing remote system overview, historical performance charts, and alarm notifications from any web-connected device. All configuration data resides in non-volatile flash memory, so settings survive a complete system shutdown without reprogramming.

MATE3 vs MATE3s — what changed?

The MATE3 has been discontinued and replaced by the MATE3s. The successor adds a faster processor, improved graphical display resolution, simpler menu navigation with more soft keys, and enhanced OpticsRE integration. For existing MATE3 installations, the MATE3s is a direct replacement using the same CAT5 connection and mounting footprint. The MATE3 remains supported in OpticsRE but no longer receives firmware updates.
