Product Description
The S2QLC from ITW Workholding is a 2-jaw stationary chuck designed for fixturing non-round workpieces on lathes and machining centers. While 3-jaw and 4-jaw configurations dominate general turning work, the 2-jaw layout is purpose-built for parts with parallel gripping surfaces — square and rectangular cross-sections, flats, and prismatic shapes that make reliable contact across only two opposing faces.
When is a 2-jaw chuck the right choice?
A 2-jaw chuck excels when the workpiece has two dominant parallel surfaces and the machining operation requires access to the remaining faces. By gripping only two sides, the chuck leaves the other faces exposed for tool access without interference. Common applications include machining keyways on shafts, squaring the ends of rectangular bars, and facing operations on flat-sided castings. The trade-off is that 2-jaw chucks provide less inherent centering compared to 3-jaw scroll chucks — they are best used when the workpiece geometry itself dictates the clamping strategy.
