Product Description
The Siemens 6SL3520-0XC03-0AF0 combines the PROFINET/EtherNet/IP communication variant with the 0XC connector configuration at 3 kW — the passive cooling ceiling of the SINAMICS G115D wall-mounted distributed drive family. With 7.7 A rated output (High Overload) and 15.4 A overload capability, this is the highest power rating achievable in the FSB fanless frame (425 × 180 × 134 mm) without an integrated fan. For applications that can operate within this thermal envelope, the fanless design eliminates a moving part — no fan to wear out, no fan filter to clean, and lower 24 V DC control supply consumption (~400 mA vs ~510 mA for the fan-cooled 4 kW variant).
Why 3 kW fanless with PROFINET?
This is the ideal drive for medium-duty conveyor sections that demand networked control but benefit from fanless simplicity: accumulation zones, merge units, and transfer cars where the continuous load is at or below 3 kW. PROFINET integration provides cyclic process data, remote diagnostics, and PROFIsafe SIL 2 safety on a single bus cable. The conveyor technology function blocks (accumulation mode, quick stop, automatic ramp) are pre-engineered and tested. And because the drive has no fan, it tolerates dusty environments better — there is no fan filter to clog, no forced air path to maintain. Natural convection cooling is silent and maintenance-free.
What motor types are supported?
The drive supports IE3 asynchronous motors, IE4 synchronous reluctance motors, and SIMOGEAR geared motor combinations up to 3 kW. Control modes: V/f, V/f with FCC, sensorless vector control. Output frequency: 0–550 Hz (V/f), 0–240 Hz (vector). Overload: 200% (15.4 A) for 3 seconds, 150% for 57 seconds. Integrated 180 V DC brake control.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does 3 kW fanless become insufficient — when do I need the 4 kW fan-cooled variant?
The transition point is thermal, not purely about motor power. If the conveyor section runs at or near 3 kW continuously (common in 24/7 intralogistics operations), the drive heatsink temperature may approach the derating threshold (40°C ambient without derating, up to 55°C with derating). In that scenario, stepping to the 4 kW fan-cooled variant provides two benefits: higher current ceiling (10.2 A vs 7.7 A) and active cooling that maintains full rated output regardless of duty cycle. For intermittent-duty sections with idle periods between cycles, 3 kW fanless is often sufficient even if the peak load touches 3.5–4 kW momentarily — the thermal mass of the heatsink absorbs short overloads.
What makes the 0XC variant different from 0XD at 3 kW?
Electrically identical — both deliver 7.7 A at 3 kW in the FSB fanless frame. The difference is the connector system (position 10 = C vs D). 0XC is the 9th confirmed G115D product code system and uses a specific connector configuration. Choose the variant whose connector type matches your available cable assemblies or existing fleet standard. All G115D code systems share the same hardware platform, electrical ratings, and control modes.
