Product Description
The DANOBATGROUP dBOT occupies a distinct category between industrial robots and CNC machine tools. While a standard articulated robot achieves flexibility at the cost of stiffness — making it unsuitable for material-removal operations on hard metals — and a 5-axis machining center achieves precision at the cost of working volume and reconfigurability, the dBOT aims to deliver both. Each of its six joints carries an optical secondary encoder that provides the CNC controller with direct angular position feedback independent of the motor encoder, enabling closed-loop positioning accuracy closer to that of a machine tool rotary axis than to a conventional robot joint.
What makes the dBOT different from a standard 6-axis industrial robot?
Three design choices separate the dBOT from a conventional articulated robot. First, the secondary optical encoders on all six axes provide independent position verification — the SIEMENS SINUMERIK ONE controller compares motor encoder and joint encoder readings in real time to detect and correct for backlash, thermal drift, and structural deflection under load. Second, the mechanical structure is engineered for stiffness rather than speed, with cast iron and welded steel components in the base and major axes that give the S7 model the structural integrity to support a 700 kg payload at over 3 meters of reach without unacceptable deflection. Third, the SINUMERIK ONE CNC brings G-code programming, tool-center-point (TCP) kinematics, and volumetric compensation — capabilities native to machine tools but typically absent from robot controllers. For an aerospace manufacturer machining a large composite fuselage panel or a rail supplier drilling mounting holes in a 3-meter structural beam, these differences determine whether the robot can hold a tolerance over the full work envelope.
How do the three dBOT models compare?
The dBOT S1 is the entry point: 200–220 kg payload with 2,185 to 2,600 mm reach, covering most machining and assembly tasks on medium-format workpieces. The S2 extends the reach to 2,900 mm while maintaining the 200–220 kg payload, serving applications where the tool or end-effector must access a deeper work envelope — long structural extrusions, large casting interiors, or multi-station cells. The S7 more than doubles the payload to 520–700 kg and pushes reach beyond 3 meters, designed for the largest aerospace and energy-sector components where the combined weight of a heavy machining spindle, tool changer, and cutting forces exceeds the capacity of the smaller models. All three share the same SINUMERIK ONE control platform and IP65/IP67 protection ratings, making them interchangeable at the programming and integration level.
What applications does the dBOT target?
DANOBATGROUP positions the dBOT for machining operations (drilling, milling, trimming, deburring) on large metallic and composite parts, assembly tasks requiring both reach and precision (fastener installation, bushing insertion, adhesive application), and additive manufacturing where a deposition head must follow a 3D toolpath over a large build envelope. Target industries include aerospace (wing spar machining, fuselage panel drilling), rail (bogie frame machining, body shell trimming), energy (wind turbine hub machining, generator housing assembly), and defense (armor plate processing, vehicle hull welding preparation). The IP65/IP67 rating allows operation in environments with coolant mist, cutting fluid spray, and carbon fiber dust — conditions that would degrade unprotected robot joints within months.
