The Desoutter CVI3 Function is a mid-range single-channel tightening controller in the CVI3 electric assembly platform. It sits between the entry-level CVI3 Essential (6 Psets) and the flagship CVI3 Vision (5.7-inch colour touchscreen, up to 4 tools). Designed for one wired handheld or fixture-mounted electric tool, it supports 200+ Desoutter tool models across a combined torque spectrum from 0.6 Nm to over 500 Nm — making it a versatile controller for fastening applications ranging from precision electronics assembly to heavy truck and construction equipment manufacturing.

Advanced Tightening Strategies

The CVI3 Function offers seven tightening strategies configurable across 250 programmable Psets, each with up to 15 sequential steps:

• Torque Control: Tighten to a target torque value.
• Angle Control: Tighten to a target angle after a threshold torque.
• Torque OR Angle: Stop on whichever criterion is met first.
• Torque AND Angle: Both criteria must be satisfied.
• Yield Point Detection: Detects the transition from elastic to plastic deformation for yield-controlled fastening.
• Torque Rate Monitoring: Monitors the torque gradient during tightening for process capability analysis.
• Seating Detection: Identifies when the fastener head contacts the joint surface.

Additional monitoring functions — including second-part angle, current draw, slip-off detection, stick-slip analysis, rundown time and rundown angle — provide comprehensive process visibility for quality-critical joints.

Data Traceability and Storage

The controller stores 20 Pset curves (OK/NOK), 10,000 individual Pset results, 1,000 assembly process results, and 500 event log entries. Each tightening result captures torque, angle, date, time and a complete report, enabling full traceability for automotive, aerospace and medical device assembly where fastening data must be archived for compliance. A removable integrated memory module simplifies controller swap-out without data loss.

Connectivity and Integration

Five Ethernet ports (4 rear + 1 front) with an integrated switch support two independent networks. Three USB ports (2 rear + 1 front), two RS-232 serial ports, and 8 configurable digital inputs / 8 outputs are standard. An optional plug-in fieldbus module adds ProfiNet (Class A/B/C with IRT), EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profibus, DeviceNet, or CC-Link connectivity for PLC and SCADA integration. The built-in soft PLC and user access rights management enable autonomous control logic without an external controller.
