Product Description
The HDC series from Mountz Inc. is a hybrid torque control platform that bridges pneumatic and electric fastening technologies. It powers and controls Mountz HD-Series brushless electric screwdrivers — from compact inline tools to pistol-grip assembly drivers — with the precision of digital torque and angle monitoring traditionally available only on fully electric transducerized systems. Each HDC controller stores 8 independent torque presets, selectable via the front panel or PLC, enabling a single tool to install multiple fastener sizes on the same assembly station without manual torque adjustment.
How does angle control improve fastening quality?
Beyond simple torque-target shutoff, the HDC monitors fastener rotation angle from 0.1 to 10 turns. This enables yield-controlled fastening: the controller tightens to a low torque threshold, then monitors rotation to a specified angle — the most accurate method for achieving consistent clamp load independent of thread friction variations. The controller detects cross-threading (torque rises before angle threshold), omissions (no rundown detected), and unfinished rundowns (cycle interrupted). A programmable screw counter (0–99, count up or down) supports kit-box assembly verification — the tool will not cycle on the (N+1)th screw, preventing both missed and double-fastened joints.
How does the HDC integrate into automated assembly lines?
The 25-pin PLC interface provides discrete I/O for line control: start enable, cycle complete, torque-up indication, and alarm output. Eight direct sensor ports accept external part-presence, nest-location, and fixture-clamp sensors, enabling the controller to enforce the correct fastening sequence — tool disabled until the fixture confirms the part is loaded and clamped. The Hi-Manager PC software provides real-time torque/angle graphing, statistical process control (SPC) data export, and remote parameter upload/download across multiple controllers. For cleanroom electronics assembly, the HD drivers are ESD-certified with bit tip resistance under 1 Ω, protecting sensitive components from electrostatic discharge during the fastening cycle.
