What does the G3 coating enable?

The AC 900F carries ISA-S71.04 G3 certification, meaning its printed circuit boards are conformally coated to withstand hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, chlorine, and other corrosive gases at concentrations classified as "harsh" by the ISA standard. This allows the controller to be installed directly in pulp-and-paper mill wet ends, wastewater treatment chemical dosing rooms, steel pickling lines, and offshore platform wellhead control cabinets — locations where unprotected electronics would corrode within months. Combined with the -20 to +70 degrees C operating temperature range without forced-air cooling, the AC 900F eliminates the need for air-conditioned control rooms or purged enclosures in many process-side installations.

How does fieldbus configuration work?

Two or four communication slots on the CPU module accept plug-in interface modules for PROFIBUS DP V0/V1 (master or slave), CAN bus (for Freelance rack I/O), FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1, and — in Freelance 2024 and later — PROFINET with redundancy and dynamic reconfiguration. The three or four onboard RJ-45 Ethernet ports serve Modbus TCP and IEC 60870-5-104 telecontrol protocol natively, and two RS-232/RS-485 serial ports handle Modbus RTU/ASCII and IEC 60870-5-101. Up to 10 S700 I/O modules attach directly to the controller's terminal unit without a separate I/O rack, making the AC 900F a self-contained control station for small process skids.
