What 40 A and 4 Poles Actually Mean
Four poles means this device switches all three phases plus neutral — the correct configuration for a three‑phase supply. The 40 A rating makes it suitable for main incomer protection where the total load does not exceed 40 A per phase. Typical applications include small commercial premises, industrial control panels, three‑phase equipment supplies, and larger residential units with three‑phase connections. If your total connected load exceeds 40 A, step up to the 63 A or 80 A versions in the F200 series.

Type A – Why This Matters in Three‑Phase Installations
Modern three‑phase equipment — VFDs, rectifiers, UPS systems, battery chargers, and anything with a switch‑mode power supply — can generate pulsating DC leakage currents. A Type AC RCCB might not detect these, leaving the installation unprotected. Type A detection covers both sinusoidal AC fault currents (traditional loads) and pulsating DC fault currents up to 6 mA smooth DC. For any installation containing electronic equipment, Type A is the minimum acceptable standard.

Electrical and Mechanical Specifications

The device is compatible with ABB S2C‑S/H6R auxiliary/signal contacts, which can be mounted on the right side (up to three in sequence) for remote status indication or fault signalling. It also accepts comb‑type busbars for efficient multi‑pole distribution.

Installation Notes
Mounts onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 60715. The device can be fed from top or bottom. The test button (UT) operates between 100 V and 240 V AC. For three‑phase TN‑S and TN‑C‑S systems, the 4‑pole configuration switches all live conductors including neutral, ensuring complete disconnection during a fault. Do not use a 4‑pole RCCB on a single‑phase system — it will work, but two poles will be unused and the device will be unnecessarily wide.
