The Allen-Bradley 1492-G (1492-GH / 1492-GS) is the high-density member of the 1492 breaker family — the same IEC 60947-2 protection in a narrower body for panels where rail width is the binding constraint.

1492-G or 1492-D — which density?

The 1492-G trades the wider current range of the 1492-D for a smaller footprint, fitting more poles in the same rail length. Choose the 1492-G when every millimeter matters and the loads are within its range; choose the 1492-D when you need the broader current or DC high-voltage rating. The alternative — standard MCBs everywhere — runs out of rail before the circuit list ends.

When does high-density actually pay off?

It pays when a cabinet is already full but the machine keeps gaining circuits — the narrow body squeezes in the extra poles without a bigger enclosure or a remote panel. The alternative — upsizing the enclosure — adds cost, footprint, and a longer wiring run for what is just a space problem.

Same protection as the wider brother?

Yes: IEC 60947-2 tripping, DIN-rail mount, and a state indicator window carry over from the rest of the 1492 family. Density is the only trade. The alternative — dropping to a no-name narrow MCB — can lose the indicator and the documented trip curves.
