Product Description
The Allen-Bradley PowerMonitor 1000 (Bulletin 1408) is the compact, network-native power meter of the family — it mounts on a panel or DIN rail and speaks EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, and DF1 across five models, so it lands straight in a Logix tag table without a gateway.
PowerMonitor 1000 or 500 — where does Ethernet enter?
The 1000 adds native EtherNet/IP plus Modbus TCP and DF1 to the basic metering of the 500, and it mounts on DIN rail or panel in five models (TR1/TR2 basic, EM1/EM2/EM3 energy). Choose it when the meter must land directly in a Logix tag table over Ethernet, not through a serial-to-Ethernet gateway. Choose the 500 when a single Modbus RTU feed is enough. The alternative — a 500 plus a protocol gateway — costs more nodes and a second commissioning step to get the same data on the network.
Which of the five models fits the job?
The TR1 and TR2 cover straightforward voltage, current, and power metering; the EM1, EM2, and EM3 add energy and demand logging for cost allocation across shifts or lines. Pick a TR when you only watch live load; pick an EM when the plant charges departments by their kWh. The alternative — buying the top EM3 for a simple indication point — pays for logging memory nobody reads.
What supply and temperature range does it tolerate?
It runs on 85–264V AC (47–63 Hz) and operates from -10 to 60°C, with Class 1 accuracy per EN 62053-21, so it sits in a panel near the bus without a separate power supply or climate control. The alternative — a meter with a narrow supply window — forces a dedicated DC supply or a transformer just to power the instrument.
