Product Description
The Allen-Bradley CENTERLINE 2500 is the IEC-standard counterpart to the CENTERLINE 2100, designed for projects and regions where IEC 61439-2 governs low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies — Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and IEC-specifying projects globally. It shares the same fundamental architecture as the 2100 — vertical columns housing withdrawable motor control units fed by a horizontal bus — but adapts every dimension, rating, and interface to IEC conventions. The result is a motor control center that fits into IEC switch rooms physically (2300 mm sections, 600–800 mm deep), electrically (690V, 50/80 kA for 1 second), and contractually (IEC type-tested assembly certification), while delivering the same intelligent motor control functions as its NEMA counterpart.
How does the physical and electrical design differ from NEMA MCCs?
Several design choices reflect the different regional standards and installation practices. Unit density: the 2500 packs 24 plug-in modules per column at an 80 mm pitch, versus 12 units per section in the 2100 — IEC starters are typically smaller, reflecting the prevalence of DIN rail components and the absence of the conservative spacing and wire-bending space requirements that NEMA tradition imposes. Enclosure: IP42 or IP54 ratings replace NEMA enclosure type numbers. Bus: the 2500's horizontal bus reaches 4000 A — higher than the 2100's 3000 A maximum — reflecting the IEC practice of feeding larger sections of a plant from a single MCC lineup rather than distributing across multiple smaller MCCs. Short-circuit rating: expressed as withstand current for 1 second (50 or 80 kA) per IEC convention, rather than RMS symmetrical amperes per UL. Both MCCs use the same intelligent devices — E300 relays, PowerFlex drives, SMC Flex starters — so the control, monitoring, and networking capabilities are identical across the two platforms.
How does the withdrawable unit system work?
Each starter, drive, or feeder unit slides into the column on guide rails, with power stabs engaging the vertical bus at the rear and control terminals accessible from the front. Units can be withdrawn to a test position where control power is maintained but power circuit is isolated — enabling functional testing of the starter logic and communication without the motor connected. A mechanical interlock prevents withdrawing or inserting a unit unless the local disconnect is in the OFF position, and the door cannot be opened with the disconnect ON. This interlocking scheme is simpler than the SecureConnect system on the 2100, reflecting the IEC practice of relying on the operator's procedural discipline alongside mechanical safeguards rather than designing every human interaction out of the hazard zone.
What intelligent MCC capabilities apply?
When specified with the IntelliCENTER option, the CENTERLINE 2500 receives the same factory pre-configuration as the 2100: IP addresses assigned, device parameters loaded, Stratix 5700 switch configured, and communication validated before shipment. The IntelliCENTER software — identical across both MCC platforms — provides real-time visualization, parameter editing, event logging, and per-device energy monitoring. For global companies standardizing on Rockwell Automation motor control, the CENTERLINE 2100 and 2500 can coexist in the same plant — the 2100 serving North American-spec equipment, the 2500 serving IEC-spec equipment — and both appear in the same IntelliCENTER dashboard with no integration gap.
