The Omron G3PW series is a family of single-phase thyristor-type power controllers for precision electric heating applications. Available in three current ratings — 20 A, 45 A and 60 A — with a common 100–240 VAC operating voltage, the G3PW delivers smooth, stepless power regulation from 0% to 98% output. It supports both phase-angle control (with proportional-to-angle, proportional-to-voltage, and proportional-to-square-voltage modes) and optimum cycle control for resistive loads, plus optional constant-current control with ±2% FS accuracy to compensate for supply voltage fluctuations and heating element ageing.

Heater Diagnostics

Constant-current models (EC suffix) include comprehensive heater monitoring: heater burnout detection via resistance measurement with a 1–100% configurable threshold, multi-element burnout detection capable of identifying a single failed element in a 10-element array, SSR short-circuit failure detection within 3 seconds, and overcurrent detection at 120% of rated current within 250 cycles. Two event inputs and two open-collector alarm outputs provide flexible integration with external control and alarm systems.

Control Flexibility

The G3PW accepts 4–20 mA DC, 1–5 VDC, or an external 2 kΩ variable resistor (G32X-V2K) for main and duty setting. Soft-start and soft-stop functions are configurable from 0.0 to 99.9 seconds to protect heating elements from thermal shock. An auto/manual switching input and phase/cycle control switching input allow dynamic adaptation to process conditions without reconfiguration.
