Why an enclosed starter instead of loose components?

A panel builder who needs motor start/stop and protection at a remote machine gets breaker, contactor, and overload in a single IP54 enclosure - no custom panel, no separate short-circuit rating to calculate. The alternative - a bare contactor plus overload relay in a general enclosure - needs its own coordination study and takes more space. TeSys LF is pre-rated at 100 kA breaking per IEC 60947-2, so a fault downstream doesn't take the whole line down.

How does AS-Interface simplify the wiring?

The starter carries an integrated AS-Interface module with 24 V AC control, so it drops onto an AS-i line like any other device. The alternative - a standard DOL starter - needs a separate AS-i slave and point-to-point wiring back to the master. For distributed machines this cuts terminations and commissioning time.

What protection does the enclosure actually provide?

IP54 means dust-tight and splash-protected, rated for wall or machine mounting in a dirty environment. Overload and short-circuit protection are built in, so the motor is covered without adding external devices. The alternative for a washdown area is a separate enclosure built around an open contactor, adding cost and a gasket to fail.
