Product Description

The 84CF is Schneider Electric's flanged vortex flow meter - a no-moving-parts sensor that sheds vortices past a bluff body to measure liquid, gas, or steam from DN15 to DN300.

Why vortex instead of magnetic or Coriolis?

Steam and most gases can't be metered by a magnetic meter, and Coriolis costs far more for the same job - the 84CF reads ±0.5% on liquid and ±1% on gas or steam to 430 °C with no wetted sensor to wear. The alternative - a turbine meter - has moving parts that drift and need recalibration.

How do you bill saturated steam by mass?

An optional RTD temperature input adds mass-flow compensation, turning the 84CF into a steam-energy meter without a separate temperature transmitter. The alternative is two instruments and a calculator to combine the signals.

What about low flow and dirty fluid?

Active Tuning technology improves sensitivity at low Reynolds numbers (down to 5000), and with no moving parts there is nothing to foul in slurry or coke-laden lines. The alternative - an orifice plate - clogs and needs periodic inspection.
