Product Description
The IMT30A is Schneider Electric's magnetic flow transmitter - the electronics that turn a Foxboro flowtube (8400A, 8500A, 9500A, 9600A, 9700A) into a smart 4-20 mA meter.
What does the transmitter actually do?
It converts the flowtube's signal to a scaled 4-20 mA output with HART or Modbus, bidirectional, and adds virtual grounding so you don't need a ground ring on the pipe. The alternative - an integrated transmitter meter - forces you to replace the whole sensor if only the electronics fail.
Why keep transmitter and sensor separate?
Separating them lets you pick the accuracy and mounting (wall or field) per application and swap a failed transmitter without disturbing the tube. The alternative - a fixed integrated unit - removes that choice and adds downtime during service.
How does it hold up in the plant?
It ships in an IP66/IP67/IP68 housing with continuous device and process diagnostics, so a coil or grounding fault shows up before it corrupts the reading. The alternative is a panel-only converter that needs its own protected enclosure.
