For the lightest loads on the line, the control loop is often just a relay and a contactor. The 0.55 kW G115D Local I/O variant upgrades that loop with drive behavior while keeping it every bit as simple to wire.

Why replace a contactor with a drive?

Because the cheapest machine part to protect is the motor. Soft ramps stop the mechanical shock that wears belts and gearboxes, electronic overload replaces the thermal relay, and a speed potentiometer or analog setpoint replaces the fixed 50 Hz. The AB0 suffix keeps it all on hardwired signals — 4 digital inputs and 2 DIO straight from the PLC.

What stays out of the system?

The bus. No PROFINET, no EtherNet/IP, no coupler, no network commissioning — just one hybrid cable for power and the existing control wires. In a fanless, IP65/66 FSA frame rated 1.7 A with 200% overload for 3 s, it is the smallest G115D that still does the full drive job.
