The Panametrics XGS868i is an ultrasonic flow transmitter specifically designed for steam mass flow measurement. It measures the flow velocity rate and uses inputs from external temperature and pressure sensors to calculate steam mass flow. The resulting mass flow rate can be displayed locally or transmitted to a remote system via analog or digital communications .

This meter offers the inherent advantages of ultrasonic technology, including non-obstructive flow measurement, no pressure drop, and drift-free operation with no moving parts to foul or collect debris. It boasts a wide turndown ratio of 1500:1 and excellent repeatability of ±0.2% to 0.5% of reading. Accuracy is typically ±1% to 2% of reading, depending on pipe size and whether a single or dual-path configuration is used, and can be as high as ±0.5% with process calibration .

The XGS868i is housed in a rugged, explosion-proof and weatherproof enclosure (Type 7/Type 4X) with certifications for hazardous areas including Class I, Division 1, Groups B, C, D in North America, as well as ATEX and IECEx Ex d IIC T6 certifications. An optional two-channel model is available for enhanced accuracy when measuring two paths on a single pipe or a single path on two different pipes .
