Product Description
The Boot and Work SPARTAN 19R is an industrial programmable logic controller built on the widely accessible Arduino platform. It represents a bridge between the maker community's open-source ethos and the stringent demands of professional industrial automation. Housed in a robust DIN-rail mountable enclosure, the SPARTAN 19R brings the flexibility of the Arduino IDE to factory floors, packaging lines, and building management systems, offering a cost-effective yet powerful alternative to traditional proprietary PLCs.
The controller provides a compact but capable set of onboard I/O. It features five inputs: four of these are uniquely flexible, configurable via software as either 10-bit analog inputs (0-10V) or digital inputs accepting 5-24Vdc signals. The fifth input can be used as a standard digital input or as a hardware interrupt for time-critical events. On the output side, the SPARTAN 19R offers 11 optoisolated digital outputs capable of driving loads up to 24Vdc, providing galvanic isolation to protect the internal electronics from field-side electrical noise and faults.
Communication is a core strength of this device. It natively supports Modbus RTU over its RS485 port and Modbus TCP over its Ethernet interface, allowing it to integrate seamlessly with HMIs, SCADA systems, and other industrial devices. The Ethernet port also enables remote programming and debugging—an engineer can upload new firmware or monitor variables from anywhere on the network without needing physical access to the USB port. An RS232 port is available for legacy device connections. For large-scale applications, the SPARTAN 19R can be expanded via its I2C interface, supporting up to 127 additional modules and a theoretical maximum of over 7,000 I/O points in a master-slave architecture.
Programming is done using the standard, freely available Arduino IDE, lowering the barrier to entry for technicians and engineers already familiar with the platform. This means a vast ecosystem of existing libraries, code examples, and community support is immediately available. The controller is fully compatible with other products in the Boot and Work industrial Arduino family, including the Ardbox and Touchberry Pi, enabling instantaneous connection and modular system design.
