Product Description

The Siemens 7KT1655 is the non-MID S0 pulse variant of the PAC1600 single-phase series. Direct 63 A connection, self-powered, 36 mm wide — it is the simplest and most compact PAC1600 for applications where pulse counting is the preferred data collection method and billing certification is not a requirement.

Why choose S0 pulse over Modbus or M-Bus for a single-phase meter?

S0 pulse is the lowest-complexity integration path. Two wires per output carry energy pulses — no protocol configuration, no addressing, no baud rate setup. The pulse output connects directly to a pulse counter, BMS digital input, or energy data logger. This is the right choice when: (1) you already have pulse counting infrastructure in place, (2) the application only needs total kWh (not instantaneous values like voltage or power factor), or (3) the installer prefers a simple contact closure interface over configuring a communication network. The trade-off — no remote register access, no instantaneous data, no remote configuration — is acceptable for straightforward consumption monitoring.

Do I need the MID version (7KT1656) or is this non-MID model enough?

The question comes down to billing. If the meter readings will be used to invoice a tenant, allocate costs with financial consequences, or form the basis of an energy performance contract, you need MID certification — choose the 7KT1656. If the meter is used for operational monitoring, voluntary energy awareness campaigns, or indicative cost allocation where disputes are settled by negotiation rather than meter readings, the 7KT1655 delivers the same measurement quality at lower cost. The two models are physically identical and interchangeable in the same DIN rail slot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the pulse rate of the S0 output on the 7KT1655?

The S0 pulse constant is configurable. Each output delivers a 30 ms pulse, with an off-time of at least 30 ms between pulses. This supports counting rates up to approximately 16 pulses per second. The exact default pulse constant (pulses per kWh) is documented in the equipment manual and can be adjusted to match the pulse counter's input specification.

Does the 7KT1655 work on 60 Hz supplies?

Yes. Unlike the MID-certified 7KT1656 (locked to 50 Hz for legal metrology), the non-MID 7KT1655 operates on both 50 Hz and 60 Hz across the full 45–66 Hz operating range. This makes it suitable for markets with 60 Hz mains and for generator-supplied circuits.
