The Siemens 7KT1666 is the MID-certified Modbus RTU variant of the PAC1600 series with direct 80 A connection. It puts billing-grade energy data — active/reactive/apparent energy, plus instantaneous voltage, current, and power factor — directly onto the RS-485 bus for PLC and SCADA integration.

Modbus RTU for energy data — what registers do I get?

Modbus RTU (and ASCII) over RS-485 gives you register-level access to all measured values: total and partial energy counters (active, reactive, apparent), instantaneous per-phase and three-phase values (voltage, current, power, power factor, frequency), and status/diagnostic registers. The Modbus map follows standard conventions for energy meters, making integration with Siemens and third-party PLCs straightforward. Baud rates up to 38400 bps are supported.

Why choose this over the M-Bus MID variant?

The choice between Modbus RTU and M-Bus comes down to the system architecture: Modbus RTU is the industrial automation standard — every PLC, RTU, and HMI speaks it natively. Can I mix 7KT1666 meters with other Modbus devices on the same RS-485 bus?

Yes. The meter is a standard Modbus RTU slave — it coexists with any other Modbus slave devices on the same RS-485 segment, provided each has a unique address. The RS-485 wiring follows standard daisy-chain topology with termination resistors at both ends of the bus.
