Product Description

Is this a standard German Schuko socket?

No. The 5UB1928 is a CEE 7/5 Type E socket — the national standard in France, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and parts of North Africa. Instead of the side-mounted earth clips found on a German Type F Schuko socket, the Type E socket has a round protruding earth pin centered above the two power contacts. When a plug is inserted, the earth pin connects first, establishing protective-earth continuity before the live and neutral contacts engage. This makes the 5UB1928 functionally incompatible with a standard Schuko plug unless the plug has a recessed earth contact that accepts the protruding pin — known as a CEE 7/7 hybrid plug, which works in both Type E and Type F sockets.

What happens if I install this in a German Schuko location?

The socket will not accept a pure Schuko (CEE 7/4) plug, because the Type E earth pin on the socket face physically blocks the recessed earth area on the plug. Only a CEE 7/7 hybrid plug — which has both side earth contacts and a recess to accept the French earth pin — fits correctly. In practice, most modern molded Schuko plugs sold in Europe are already CEE 7/7, so they fit both socket types. But early Schuko plugs without the French earth recess will not mate with the 5UB1928. Verify the plug standard before specifying this socket for a non-Type E installation.

How does the 5UB1928 fit into the DELTA i-system range?

It shares the same DELTA i-system carbon metallic design language as the 5UB192x Schuko models — same 55x55 mm center plate, same screwless plug-in terminals, same flush-mount form factor. The only difference is the socket standard: Type E with center protective contact rather than Type F with side earth clips. This allows a consistent visual appearance across an international building — use 5UB1928 in the French and Belgian offices, 5UB1921 in the German offices, and every socket in the building has the same carbon metallic finish and the same 55x55 mm module width.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the earth pin be removed or bent to fit a Schuko plug?

Never. The center protective contact is an integral part of the safety design and must not be modified. Removing or bending the earth pin eliminates the protective-earth connection and creates a dangerous installation that violates every national wiring code.

Does this socket accept Type C Europlugs?

Yes. The standard 2-pin Europlug (CEE 7/16) fits Type E sockets without any issue, as the earth pin sits above and between the two power contacts. Laptop chargers, phone adapters, and other double-insulated Class II devices work normally.
