Product Description
The EyeT+ Pick is a dual-laser 3D vision system from IT-Robotics (Padua, Italy), purpose-built for random bin picking applications. It won a Silver-level 2018 Vision Systems Design Innovators Award. The system uses an integrated rotary actuator to pivot the camera and dual laser-line projectors (5 mW, 660 nm) about the roll axis, scanning the bin volume without the vibration and mechanical stress of traditional linear-axis scanning. A Photonfocus area scan camera captures dense point clouds at over 1.5 million points per second.
How does the dual-laser design improve bin picking reliability?
Two angled laser-line projectors deliver 2× faster scanning than single-laser systems. More importantly, blind spots and shadows created by one laser are captured by the other — critical for random bin picking where parts can be heavily occluded, overlapping, or oriented unpredictably. The approach also performs well on low-texture and uniformly surfaced objects, where passive stereo vision struggles. Ambient light rejection is strong due to the higher-power focused laser lines versus diffused pattern projection.
What software and robot integration does the system support?
Smart Pick 3D Solid software runs on a high-performance industrial PC (4.0 GHz Intel i7) and handles CAD-based 3D pose detection, collision-free trajectory planning for robot and gripper, and digital twin simulation. New products are configured in two steps: import the CAD model, then define gripping points. Supported robots include Kuka, ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa, Kawasaki, Universal Robots, Doosan, Comau, and Stäubli, with fieldbus protocols covering DeviceNet, Profibus, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and Profinet. Full system calibration takes under 15 minutes.
