Product Description

The J.P. Selecta Electemp-TFT is a digital PID temperature regulator with a 4.3″ TFT touchscreen, purpose-built for laboratory temperature control. It replaces the earlier Sensoterm II contact thermometer and serves as an external controller for Selecta hot plates, magnetic stirrers, immersion thermostats, baths, and general heating/cooling equipment. The Pt100 and K-type thermocouple sensor inputs allow the controller to measure and regulate process temperatures across a range from -150 °C to 1300 °C. The auto-tuning, auto-adaptive PID algorithm and heating/cooling regulation capability make it suitable for both heating and cooling applications from ambient +5 °C upwards. CE certified.

Multiprogram Temperature Profiling

  • Up to 10 Programs (6 Segments Each): The controller stores up to 10 independent temperature programs, each with up to 6 segments. Users can configure a segment stabilization time from 1 minute to 99 hours, with programmable ramps between segments. This makes the Electemp-TFT suitable for multi-step thermal protocols such as enzyme reactions, material aging tests, and sequential heat-cool procedures where temperature must follow a precise time-dependent profile.
  • Segment Naming: Each program (P1–P10) can be assigned a user-defined name, simplifying navigation and selection across multiple stored protocols.

Touchscreen Interface and Configuration

  • 4.3″ TFT Touchscreen: The touchscreen interface provides direct access to all control functions through virtual buttons: setpoint temperature and time indicators, start/stop, program selection, a countdown timer, and a reverse button for program editing. The interface is organized into clear, categorized menus accessible from the main screen, with large, well-spaced touch zones for accurate operation with laboratory gloves.
  • Configurable Parameters: Users can configure date/time, temperature correction value, data acquisition interval, language (English, Spanish, French), °C/°F selection, and both over-temperature and under-temperature limit values.
  • Auto-Tuning with Auto-Adaptive PID: The controller initiates an auto-tuning cycle at the first start-up and continuously adapts PID parameters to changing thermal loads. This auto-adaptive function ensures stable control across different heater configurations—a hot plate with low thermal mass, a resistive oven, or a high-inertia water bath.

Alarms, Safety, and Data Logging

  • Audible and Visual Alarms: The controller provides both audible and visual alarm indications for process deviations, ensuring that operators are alerted even when they are not directly in front of the instrument.
  • Over/Under Temperature Alarm with Event Memory: When a temperature limit is exceeded, the controller stores the alarm event in memory with date, start time, end time, and temperature value. This allows post-experiment review of thermal excursions and supports Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) documentation.
  • Software Safety Thermostat (TS): The built-in software safety thermostat allows the user to set a maximum working temperature. If the temperature exceeds this safety limit, the controller terminates the heating cycle and locks the alarm state until acknowledged by an operator—providing redundant protection beyond the primary PID control loop.
  • Probe Error Detection and Self-Diagnosis: The controller can detect and alert on a disconnected or faulty temperature probe, network communication failures, and other internal errors with corresponding error codes that facilitate troubleshooting.
  • RS-232 and USB Data Logging: Process data can be exported via RS-232 or USB interface for laboratory information management system (LIMS) integration, quality control documentation, and data analysis.

Electrical Specifications and Mechanical Design

  • 3100 W Power Output (230 V): A Schuko-type plug on the rear panel delivers up to 3100 W to an external heater. The output is protected by a fuse. Standard 230 V, 50/60 Hz supply.
  • Rear Panel Connections: Pt100 probe connector, K-type thermocouple probe connector, power output (Schuko), and communication interfaces (RS-232 and USB) are all accessible on the rear panel.
  • Compact Housing: Dimensions are 10.5 × 13.5 × 21 cm (H × W × D), with a total weight of 1.25 kg. The unit is designed for benchtop placement adjacent to the controlled heating equipment.

Applications

  • Laboratory water baths and oil baths requiring PID temperature regulation
  • Hot plates and magnetic stirrers for chemistry and biology laboratories
  • Heating mantles for round-bottom flasks in organic synthesis
  • Cooling circulators and immersion thermostats
  • Research and analytical laboratories running multi-step thermal protocols
  • Quality control laboratories requiring temperature alarm memory and data logging
