Double assignment — 16 channels from 8 connectors

Each M12 5-pole socket carries two digital channels on separate pins — that is how 8 connectors deliver 16 independently configurable I/O points. All 16 channels are DIQ: any channel can be an input or an output, set in TIA Portal. This is the highest-density ET 200AL digital module in the 45 mm form factor.

M12 vs. M8 — choosing the right connector ecosystem

The M12 5-pole variant doubles the I/O density of the M8 module (6ES7143-5BF00-0BA0) in a 45 mm wide housing vs. 30 mm. M12 connectors are mechanically more robust and field-proven in heavy industrial environments. If your installation uses M12 sensor cabling already, this module keeps the connector ecosystem consistent. If space is the overriding constraint, the M8 variant saves 15 mm of width at half the channel count.

Counter mode

Beyond simple on/off, each channel can operate as a counter — useful for flow meter pulses, encoder counting, or part counting directly at the I/O module without consuming PLC scan time. Diagnostic alarms and channel-level LED status are parameterizable per channel.
