Product Description
The Siemens 7KT1652 is the MID-certified Modbus RTU variant of the PAC1600 single-phase series. It combines billing-grade single-phase measurement with register-level Modbus access — the right choice when a single-phase circuit needs to be metered for billing and the data goes to a PLC or industrial controller.
Modbus RTU for single-phase energy — what data can I access?
The Modbus RTU/ASCII interface over RS-485 exposes approximately 50 registers covering: total and partial energy counters (kWh, kvarh, kVAh, import and export), instantaneous values (voltage, current, active/reactive/apparent power, power factor, frequency), and status/diagnostic information. Baud rates up to 38400 bps are supported. The register map follows standard energy meter conventions, making integration with automation controllers straightforward. This is the same register set as the three-phase PAC1600 Modbus meters, so a SCADA template developed for one works for the other.
Why combine Modbus RTU with MID certification on a single-phase meter?
This combination targets installations where a single-phase circuit carries billing significance and the automation system uses Modbus. Examples: (1) Individual machine energy billing in a co-manufacturing facility where each tenant's production line is single-phase fed and the PLC handles both process control and energy billing. (2) EV charger energy metering where each charging point is single-phase and the Modbus network connects to a central billing system. (3) Renewable energy feed-in metering for single-phase PV inverters where the generation data has financial value under a power purchase agreement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the 7KT1652 be used on a 60 Hz supply?
No. MID-certified meters are calibrated and certified at the European nominal frequency of 50 Hz. For 60 Hz applications, the non-MID 7KT1651 provides the same Modbus functionality across the full 45–66 Hz range.
Is the Modbus register map the same as the three-phase PAC1600 Modbus meters?
The register map follows the same conventions and structure, but some registers that are three-phase-specific (L2 and L3 values, phase-to-phase voltages) are not populated. The single-phase registers — voltage L-N, current, power, power factor, energy counters — are at the same addresses as their three-phase counterparts. A SCADA template for the three-phase PAC1600 Modbus meters can be adapted for the 7KT1652 by masking the unused phase registers.
