The Watlow WATROD Multicoil tubular heater represents a significant advancement in tubular heater technology, combining multiple resistance coils and/or thermocouples within a single sheath. This patent-pending design enables precise internal temperature measurement with rapid response while simplifying installation. As the industry's first tubular heater with three-phase capability, the Multicoil delivers full power in a compact package with lower amperage requirements compared to using three separate single-phase heaters.

Configuration Options

Watlow can incorporate up to two coils in 0.375 or 0.430 inch diameter heaters and up to three coils in 0.475 or 0.490 inch diameter configurations. One or more of these coils can be resistance wire or a thermocouple, with five thermocouple and coil configurations available to meet diverse application requirements. The Multicoil design supports both single-ended and double-ended terminations, with three leads for three-phase wye connection when configured for three-phase operation.

Performance Specifications

Maximum watt densities reach 60W/in² (9.3W/cm²) with sheath temperatures up to 1200°F (648°C). The internal thermocouple provides accurate, responsive high-limit sensing directly from within the heater sheath. Epoxy moisture seals or silicone-based seals are recommended for moisture protection. All standard sheath materials including Incoloy, 304 stainless steel, and 316 stainless steel are available.

Installation Flexibility

Bending formations are virtually limitless, accommodating virtually any custom configuration. A wide variety of mounting options and terminations are available to suit specific application requirements. The Multicoil design reduces installation time and overall cost compared to multiple separate heater assemblies. Applications include food service equipment, process heating, medical devices, plastics processing, plating operations, oven heating, and semiconductor manufacturing.
