The Watlow FIREROD immersion heater packages high watt densities up to 300 W/in² (46.5 W/cm²) in a compact screw-plug design, offering greater versatility for heating system design. Its small size and high capacity make it ideal for replacing larger conventional immersion heaters, especially in cramped quarters where space is limited.

Equipped with a brass 3/4 inch NPT double threaded screw plug, these heaters allow addition of conduit boxes and other accessories. The Incoloy sheath resists corrosion from water, with optional stainless steel fittings available for more corrosive applications. Solid copper leads with silicone rubber sleeves provide reliable wiring connections, and the silicone rubber seal at the lead end protects against damp atmospheres outside the tank.

The FIREROD immersion heater is recommended for immersion in water or 90+ percent water-soluble solutions. For low-viscosity liquids, the high watt density packs more heat into tight spots. For viscous liquids such as oils, appropriate derating prevents carbonization at the heater sheath. Scale buildup and sludge must be controlled for long heater life.

Built for sustained high-temperature operation, these heaters are especially valuable in heat-transfer applications with liquid metals, making them a widely used component in nuclear power system development. Maximum voltage is 480VAC. Applications include plastic reclamation, food preparation, and laboratory equipment.
