Product Description
The REER MOSAIC M1 is the master module of the MOSAIC (Modular Safety Integrated Controller) platform — a software-configurable safety controller designed to replace racks of individual safety relays with a single modular system. The 22.5 mm-wide DIN-rail base unit provides 8 safety inputs, 2 OSSD output pairs, and 4 test outputs for short-circuit monitoring, sufficient for a small machine with one light curtain, one E-stop, one magnetic interlock, and one two-hand control. When larger or distributed safety architectures are needed, up to 14 expansion modules snap onto the MSC high-speed backplane bus without external wiring.
How does software-defined safety simplify machine design?
The free MSD (Mosaic Safety Designer) graphical tool replaces hardwired relay logic with drag-and-drop function blocks — logic operators, timers, counters, muting, and more. After building the logic diagram, MSD automatically calculates the safety performance metrics (PFHd, DCavg, MTTFd) for the complete safety function per ISO 13849-1, generates a compliance report suitable for CE marking technical files, and simulates the logic before downloading to the hardware. Real-time monitoring during commissioning shows the live state of every input, output, and logic block — turning what is effectively a black box in relay-based systems into a transparent, diagnosable safety network.
How does MOSAIC scale from one machine to a full plant?
In stand-alone mode, the M1 controls up to four safety devices. With expansion modules, the system scales to 128 safety inputs and 16 OSSD output pairs — replacing 50+ individual safety relays in a complex multi-station assembly line or packaging hall. Fieldbus expansion modules (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, PROFINET, EtherCAT) transmit safety status to the machine PLC and receive non-safe commands. The M1S and M1S COM variants add configurable I/O and integrated Ethernet fieldbus respectively. All variants maintain PL e / SIL 3 certification regardless of system size.
