Product Description
The Novus N1020 is a 1/32 DIN (48×24 mm) PID temperature controller that combines self-adaptive PID control, universal input flexibility, and a compact IP65-rated front panel into a single 48×24 mm panel-mount housing. Its 18 ms sampling rate and advanced auto-tuning algorithm make it suitable for applications where space constraints and control performance are equally critical.

Self-Adaptive PID Control & 18 ms Sampling
- Self-Adaptive PID Algorithm: The high-performance microprocessor continuously adjusts PID parameters (P, I, D) to maintain optimal control response as thermal load conditions change. No manual tuning is required—the algorithm learns the system dynamics and optimizes itself autonomously.
- 18 ms Sampling Period: The controller samples the process input every 18 milliseconds, providing a control loop update rate approximately 3× faster than typical industrial temperature controllers (which commonly sample at 60–250 ms). This rapid sampling is critical for fast-responding thermal processes such as packaging sealing, laboratory heating, and injection molding hot runner control.
- Ramp & Soak Profiling: Five independent programs, each supporting up to 4 segments, enable precise temperature profiles for multi-stage thermal processes. The timer function supports automated cycling and timed shutoff.
- Soft-Start: Gradually ramps output power from zero to the required level, reducing thermal shock on heating elements and preventing inrush current spikes during cold starts.
- Loop Break Alarm: The controller detects a broken sensor, open circuit, or Pt100 short-circuit and immediately triggers an alarm, automatically shutting down control output to prevent process damage.
Universal Input & Flexible Outputs
- Sensor Compatibility: Accepts eight thermocouple types (J, K, T, E, S, N, R, B), Pt100 RTD (3-wire), and 0-50 mV analog signals. Input type is configurable entirely through the front-panel menu or QuickTune software—no hardware jumpers or solder bridges to change.
- Actual Temperature Ranges (Thermocouple): Type J: -110 to 950 °C; Type K: -150 to 1370 °C; Type T: -160 to 400 °C; Type E: -90 to 730 °C; Type N: -270 to 1300 °C; Type R: -50 to 1760 °C; Type S: -50 to 1760 °C; Type B: 400 to 1800 °C. Pt100: -200 to 850 °C.
- Dual Output Configuration: OUT1 provides a logic pulse (5 VDC at 25 mA) for driving external solid-state relays. OUT2 is a SPST-NO mechanical relay rated at 1.5 A / 240 VAC. Both outputs can be independently configured as control outputs, alarm outputs, or combined control + alarm—for example, OUT1 for PID heating via SSR, OUT2 for high-temperature alarm relay.
- 4 Alarms with 9 Configurable Functions: Each alarm can be assigned to either output and configured as: Off, Absolute Minimum/Low (Lo), Absolute Maximum/High (Ki), Differential Low/High (Dif/DifL/DifK), Timer On (T.On), Timer End (T.End), or Sensor Break (Ierr). This flexibility allows sophisticated multi-level alarm strategies within a single compact controller.
RS-485 Modbus RTU & QuickTune Configuration
- RS-485 Modbus RTU: Supports up to 247 controllers on a single bus. All configurable parameters are accessible for reading and writing via Modbus RTU protocol, enabling seamless integration with SCADA, PLC, and building management systems.
- USB Type-C Interface: The built-in USB CDC class (virtual COM port) allows direct connection to a PC without special drivers. The free QuickTune software provides graphical configuration, parameter backup/restore, and real-time process monitoring.
- Push-In Connector: The removable push-in terminal block allows pre-wiring and tool-free installation, significantly reducing panel commissioning time and eliminating loose screw terminals during maintenance.
Applications
- Food & beverage processing: ovens, fryers, pasteurizers, fermentation tanks
- Laboratory and healthcare: incubators, sterilizers, environmental chambers
- Packaging machinery: heat sealing, shrink-wrap tunnels
- Industrial automation: hot runner injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming
- Commercial refrigeration: temperature monitoring and compressor control
