Product Description
The JUMO safetyM TB/TW08 is a versatile, freely programmable temperature limiting and monitoring device specifically designed to meet the stringent safety requirements of DIN EN 14597 for heat-generating systems. It can be configured either as a temperature limiter (TB) with manual reset, or as a temperature monitor (TW) with automatic reset. The instrument accepts a wide range of sensor inputs including RTD temperature probes, thermocouples, and standard current/voltage signals. A digital input filter with adjustable time constant provides stable measurement readings even in electrically noisy environments. Two independent relay outputs (K1 changeover, KV make contact) and one configurable analog output ensure flexible integration into safety circuits and control loops.
Safety Configuration and Unlocking
- TB (Temperature Limiter) Mode: Once the limit value is exceeded, the K1 relay output de-energizes and remains locked in the safe state until the front-panel key or an external binary input is activated after the temperature has fallen below the limit value minus the hysteresis. This ensures timely and systematic manual acknowledgment of the fault condition.
- TW (Temperature Monitor) Mode: The relay output automatically re-energizes when the temperature returns to the permissible range. A configurable pre‑alarm can provide early warning before the actual limit value is reached, and can be set as an absolute value or as a relative distance to the limit value.
- Internal and External Unlocking: Unlocking can be performed either directly on the front panel (via key) or remotely via a binary input, enabling integration into plant-wide safety workflows while maintaining functional safety integrity.
Universal Measurement Input and Processing
- Freely Programmable Analog Input: A single universal input accepts RTD sensors (Pt100, Pt1000), thermocouples (types J, K, T, E, N, R, S, B, L, C, W5Re/W26Re, etc.), current signals (0/4-20 mA), and voltage signals (0/2-10 V). 17 pre‑programmed linearizations cover the most common sensor types, and a custom linearization can be configured via the PC setup software.
- Digital Input Filter: The built‑in digital filter with adjustable time constant suppresses spurious measurement spikes caused by electromagnetic interference, ensuring reliable limit detection without nuisance tripping.
- Temperature Range: The measuring range spans from -200 °C to 850 °C, with the actual limits determined by the connected sensor type. The instrument guarantees consistent accuracy across the full range.
Outputs and Communication
- Relay Outputs: K1 is a changeover contact (safety output), while KV is a make contact. Both are rated 3 A at 250 V AC. They can be independently assigned to limit alarm, pre‑alarm, or alarm functions. All relay states are fail‑safe—contacts open on power loss.
- Analog Output: A scalable analog output (4-20 mA, 0-20 mA, 2-10 V, or 0-10 V) transmits the measured temperature value to a remote indicator, PLC, or chart recorder, enabling plant‑wide temperature visualization.
- PC Setup Software: A dedicated Windows‑based configuration program allows offline parameterization, archiving, and duplication of settings across multiple instruments, simplifying commissioning and maintenance.
Installation and Environmental Robustness
- Compact Panel-Mount Housing: With front dimensions of 96 × 48 mm and a panel depth of only 67 mm, the instrument fits easily into control cabinet doors at the standard 1/8 DIN cut‑out. An optional DIN rail adapter is available for rear‑of‑panel mounting.
- IP65 Front Protection: The front panel is rated IP65, providing complete protection against dust ingress and low‑pressure water jets, making it suitable for wash‑down areas and dusty industrial environments.
- Wide Supply Voltage Range: The instrument operates from 110-240 V AC (48-63 Hz) or 20-30 V AC/DC, covering global industrial mains voltages without the need for external transformers or voltage selectors.
