The Emerson IC695CEP001 (referred to as RX3i CEP001) is a PROFINET I/O-Device carrier module for the PACSystems RX3i platform. Rather than processing I/O itself, it enables an entire RX3i rack — populated with IC694 and IC695 I/O modules — to appear on a PROFINET network as a remote I/O station (I/O-Device), controlled by a PROFINET controller such as a CPE302, CPE330, or third-party PROFINET master.

What role does the CEP001 play in a PROFINET architecture?

In PROFINET terminology, an I/O-Device is the slave — it responds to cyclic I/O data requests from an I/O-Controller (master). The CEP001 bridges between the PROFINET network and the RX3i backplane, converting PROFINET cyclic frames into backplane reads and writes to the I/O modules in the rack. Two RJ-45 10/100BASE-TX ports support line, ring (MRP), or star topologies. The I/O update rate is configurable from 1ms to 512ms, matching the response requirements of the connected field devices. Thirty-two input status bits and 32 output control bits provide module-level diagnostics to the PROFINET controller.

How is the system physically assembled?

The CEP001 carrier (177.2×51×35mm) mounts in the RX3i rack and provides the PROFINET interface. An IC694CEE001 expansion carrier can be attached to add one additional IC694-series I/O module — useful when the main rack slot count is tight. The CEP001 is powered by 24VDC (19.2–30V, 5.25W) and carries one Micro-B USB 2.0 device port for configuration. It requires an RX3i CPU with Firmware 9.40+ (CPE302) or 8.50+ (CPE305/310/330/CRU320).
