Product Description
The Vulcanic 10811 is an atmospheric single-loop temperature control unit (TCU) engineered for precise thermal management of water or glycol-water circuits in plastics, rubber, and composite processing. Unlike high-pressure systems, it uses an atmospheric expansion tank to absorb volume changes, simplifying installation without compromising performance. The unit arrives fully assembled on a painted frame with castors—connect the 400 V 3-phase supply, hook up the process water circuit, and start controlling temperature within minutes.
Integrated CMS/SGC ECO Control & LCD Display
- Central Management System: The SGC ECO controller consolidates all control, monitoring, and safety functions into a single management system with a clear LCD display. Operators view real-time setpoint and actual temperatures, heating output percentage, cooling output percentage, pump status, and alarm messages at a glance.
- Three Operating Modes: PUMP ONLY mode circulates fluid without heating—used during initial filling and degassing. REGULATION mode runs closed-loop PID temperature control for normal production. FORCED COLD mode applies maximum cooling power for rapid temperature pull-down during mold changes or process transitions.
- Phase Detection: The SGC ECO monitors pump rotation direction on startup and alerts the operator if two supply phases need to be swapped—no oscilloscope or electrician guesswork required.
Hydraulic Design — Autofill, Degas, Pressurize
- Automatic Filling: Connect the unit to the site water network via a standard ball valve. The SGC ECO manages the fill solenoid, topping up the atmospheric tank as needed without operator intervention.
- Integrated Degassing Bottle: A degassing chamber built into the heater boiler sits at the pump suction—the point of lowest pressure in the circuit. Reduced flow velocity inside this bottle allows entrained air bubbles to separate from the liquid. The separated gas vents through a flexible top pipe to the atmospheric tank, while the bottom pipe simultaneously supplies make-up fluid. This continuous self-bleeding process eliminates the need for manual air venting after every mold change.
- Atmospheric Expansion: The unpressurized expansion tank provides 4.2 liters of expansion volume, accommodating the thermal expansion of the heat transfer fluid from 10 °C to 90 °C without over-pressurizing the circuit.
Heating & Cooling — A Complete Thermal Loop
- 10 kW Immersion Heater: A low-watt-density electric immersion heater (400 V 3-phase, 18 A max.) delivers controlled heating. The single-pass heater tank is sized to maintain an optimum balance between fluid velocity, watt density, and turbulence for excellent heat transfer and minimal pressure drop.
- Water-Cooled Heat Exchanger: For processes requiring active cooling, the unit integrates a heat exchanger connected to the site cooling water network. The SGC ECO modulates the cooling water flow to achieve the target temperature curve without overshoot.
- Temperature Range: The atmospheric design supports continuous operation from 10 °C (with glycol water or low cooling temperatures) up to 90 °C, covering the majority of water-based molding and thermoforming applications.
Safety & Commissioning Sequence
- Pump-First Interlock: The heater cannot be energized unless the pump is running and fluid is circulating—preventing dry-fire damage. A low-level switch in the atmospheric tank generates an alarm and cuts heating if the fluid level drops below the safe threshold.
- Commissioning Workflow: After filling the atmospheric tank to the overflow level, the operator selects PUMP ONLY mode to bleed air from the circuit. The SGC ECO verifies pump rotation direction. Once flow is stable, switching to REGULATION mode activates the PID temperature loop. The entire startup procedure is guided by the LCD interface and documented in the user manual.
- Pressure Limitation: The maximum allowable working pressure in the process circuit is 10 bar.g. The atmospheric expansion system prevents the pressure from exceeding this limit under normal thermal expansion conditions.
Applications
- Elastomer and rubber molding (injection, compression, transfer)
- Polymer thermoforming and hot compression molding
- Heating/cooling of calender rolls and extrusion dies
- Temperature tracing and maintenance for tanks and reactors
- Composite curing and post-cure cooling processes
