This variant is specified for installations where the drive sits behind existing harmonic mitigation infrastructure: a dedicated drive transformer with 5% or higher impedance, line reactors on the feeder, or an active front-end upstream. In these scenarios, an integrated EMC filter is redundant — the external conditioning already limits conducted emissions to levels below C3 without the additional capacitance-to-ground that an integrated filter introduces.

Why skip the integrated filter?

An EMC filter adds leakage current to ground through its Y-capacitors. In installations with sensitive residual-current monitoring or where multiple unfiltered drives already share a common DC bus, that leakage current can accumulate to nuisance-trip levels. Choosing the unfiltered variant puts the responsibility for EMC compliance on the system integrator but removes a source of leakage current and component count. This is the standard approach in large industrial plants where harmonic mitigation is engineered at the bus level, not per-drive.
