Why put a 250 kW pump drive on the Ethernet backbone at all?

Because that is where the energy accounting already lives. PROFINET carries setpoints, status and fault histories to the controller, and the drive reports the consumption data that campus energy dashboards are built on — without a serial gateway in between. EtherNet/IP on the same port keeps the drive reachable from Rockwell-side monitoring as well, so one hardware choice serves both automation estates.

What does the 0-prefix build change for a plant room?

It removes the DC link terminals — the connection point reserved for external du/dt filters. In a plant room where the motor sits metres away rather than hundreds, that connection point would sit unused, and the 0AF0 build leaves it out.
