The IC866-0370-603-5P is the IP55 machine-mount version of the 37 kW (50 HP) 600 V IC866 — 54 A output, Frame 5, with PROFINET RT factory-installed. Its IP20 sibling (IC866-0370-603-2P) was covered as product 7121 in batch 13; the two drives share the identical 54 A IGBT power stage, identical PROFINET firmware, and identical Frame 5 mechanical platform. The difference is entirely in where the drive is designed to live: the -2P expects a ventilated cabinet; the -5P expects to be bolted to a machine frame, a wall, or a pedestal within sight of the motor, protected by its own gasketed enclosure and sealed heatsink.

IP55 vs. IP20 at 37 kW: the enclosure choice in practice

At 54 A output, the motor cable for a 37 kW 600 V drive is 6 AWG copper — manageable in cost and weight, but still a line item on the bill of materials. Mounting the drive within 5 meters of the motor (IP55 on the machine frame) versus 40 meters away (IP20 in a remote MCC) saves roughly 35 meters of 6 AWG armored cable, a cable tray run, and the associated voltage drop. At 54 A through 35 meters of 6 AWG, the voltage drop is approximately 2.5 V — negligible for a 600 V motor, but the cable cost difference is real. The IP55 enclosure also eliminates the need for a dedicated ventilated cabinet section at the drive location. For a pump skid that ships as a self-contained unit — motor, pump, baseplate, pipe spools, and control — bolting the IP55 drive to the baseplate makes the entire skid a single electrical connection: one 600 V feeder, one Ethernet cable for PROFINET, and the skid is commissioned. Compare this to the IP20 approach: the drive lives in a remote panel, a 40-meter motor cable runs from the panel to the skid, and the skid must also carry a local disconnect switch within sight of the motor. The IP55 version simplifies the skid to a single-point electrical interface — a meaningful advantage when the skid builder and the panel builder are the same company, and the fewer field wiring terminations between them, the fewer commissioning faults. The -5P variant pays for the IP55 enclosure once; the project saves on cable, conduit, disconnect, and commissioning labor for the life of the installation.
