Product Description
The IC866-0900-4A3-50 is one of the highest-power standard-enclosure drives in Emerson's PACMotion VFD family — 90 kW (120 HP) at 480 V three-phase, delivering 180 A continuous output in an IP55 sealed enclosure. At this power level, the drive is the primary mover for large industrial rotating equipment: compressor prime movers in refrigeration and gas processing, high-volume centrifugal pumps in water and wastewater, extruder main drives in plastics and rubber processing, and forced-draft fans in boiler and furnace systems.
Why IP55 at 90 kW?
The default assumption for drives above 55 kW is IP20 in a dedicated motor control center (MCC) or line-up cabinet — the drive's physical size and heat dissipation (approximately 4.5 kW of losses at full load) seem to demand a ventilated enclosure. But an MCC in a pump station or compressor house is itself a significant infrastructure cost: floor space, air conditioning, cable trenches from the MCC to motors that may be 50 meters away. An IP55 drive mounted on the wall adjacent to the compressor or pump eliminates the MCC footprint, shortens the motor cable (reducing voltage drop and reflected-wave stress on the motor insulation), and places the drive's keypad and status LEDs at the operator's point of use. The drive's sealed heatsink design allows through-panel mounting — the heatsink extends through a cutout into ambient air or an exhaust duct, while the control electronics and power terminals remain inside the building or a small weather shelter. The built-in PID controller can regulate pump discharge pressure, compressor suction pressure, or fan static pressure directly from a 4–20 mA transducer, maintaining the process variable at setpoint without a separate loop controller. PROFINET RT provides the SCADA interface for remote speed setpoint, actual current monitoring, and predictive maintenance data — output current trend, DC bus voltage ripple, and heatsink temperature can all be trended for early warning of motor bearing degradation or cooling system fouling.
