Choose IP55: the drive mounts on the machine frame adjacent to the motor, the motor cable is 2–3 meters, no cabinet ventilation is required, and the machine's overall footprint shrinks. The trade-off is ambient temperature: the IP55 drive's heatsink dissipates into the machine's immediate environment rather than a controlled cabinet interior. At 30 kW, this thermal consideration is material — if the machine operates in a foundry or a desert installation where ambient air exceeds 40°C, the drive must be derated or the IP20 cabinet-mount variant with air conditioning should be chosen instead.
