Product Description
The IC200ERM001 is the isolated expansion receiver module for Emerson's VersaMax distributed I/O platform. It mounts in the far-left slot of a VersaMax expansion rack and connects to the expansion transmitter module (ETM001) in the main CPU or NIU rack via a shielded copper expansion cable, extending the VersaMax backplane up to 750 meters from the controller. The isolation is galvanic: 500 VDC between the expansion bus and the local rack backplane, protecting the CPU and the main-rack I/O from electrical faults that occur on a remote expansion rack — a motor cable shorted to an I/O wire on a conveyor sensor, a lightning-induced transient on an outdoor field device, a ground-potential difference between two buildings on a campus-wide installation. Each IC200ERM001 supports daisy-chaining to the next expansion rack through its second D-shell connector, with a terminator plug on the final rack in the chain — up to seven racks, each holding up to eight I/O or specialty modules, for a total of 56 modules distributed across a 5.25 km cumulative expansion cable path.
Hot-swap and hold-last-state: uptime features for distributed I/O
The IC200ERM001 supports hot-swap: an expansion rack can be powered down, its modules replaced, and the rack powered back up without stopping the CPU or affecting I/O on other expansion racks. The expansion bus automatically re-enumerates the modules on the affected rack and resumes scanning. For output modules on the expansion rack, the hold-last-state feature configures each output channel to either hold its last commanded value or transition to a user-defined safe state when communication with the CPU is lost — critical for actuators that must not change state during a network interruption (a valve that must remain open, a heater that must remain off). The receiver module reports the expansion bus status and the rack power-supply status through its three front-panel LEDs (PWR, EXP RX, SCAN), and a rotary switch behind the access door sets the expansion rack ID from 1 to 7 — no DIP switches, no software configuration tool, no IP address to assign. The IC200ERM001 is the physical bridge that turns a centralized VersaMax PLC into a geographically distributed control system — and it does so with a single expansion cable per rack, an isolation rating that handles real-world ground-potential differences, and a connector-and-DIP-switch-free commissioning process that takes less time than pulling the cable.
