Product Description
The IC200MDD847 combines 8 high-voltage AC inputs and 8 individually isolated relay outputs in a single VersaMax module slot — 240 VAC nominal inputs (155–264 VAC on-state range) with a reactive input circuit presenting 38.5 kΩ impedance at 60 Hz, plus 8 Form A (SPST-NO) electromechanical relay outputs rated for 2 A resistive at up to 265 VAC or 125 VDC. The relay outputs are individually isolated from each other — output 1 can switch a 24 VDC solenoid valve, output 2 can switch a 120 VAC contactor coil, and output 8 can switch a 240 VAC heater element, all from the same module without any electrical interaction between channels. This is the module for the small panel that needs a handful of AC field device interfaces but does not justify two separate 8-point modules: 8 AC inputs for pushbuttons, float switches, and limit switches on a pump control panel, plus 8 relay outputs for the pump contactors, valve actuators, and alarm beacons — all in one 110 mm-wide module.
Relay outputs: the universal interface
Each relay output is a dry contact — no leakage current when off (unlike a solid-state output), no polarity sensitivity (unlike a DC transistor output), no minimum load current beyond the 10 mA required to wet the contacts. This universality is both the strength and the design consideration: relay contacts have a finite mechanical life (typically 10–20 million operations at no load, dropping to 100,000–500,000 at full rated current), and each contact opening on an inductive load (a contactor coil, a solenoid) generates an arc that erodes the contact surface. The IC200MDD847 includes no internal snubbers or arc suppression — the user must install external RC snubbers or freewheeling diodes across inductive loads, sized appropriately for the load current and voltage. The reward for this additional external component is that a relay output module does not care whether the load is AC or DC, 5 V or 240 V, 10 mA or 2 A — it closes a pair of contacts and lets the external circuit determine what happens. For a mixed-voltage panel where no two output channels switch the same type of load, individually isolated relay outputs are the only output technology that handles all of them from the same module.
