Product Description

What makes the IR Series different from general-purpose 6-axis robots?

The IR Series is purpose-built for injection molding automation. Unlike general-purpose industrial robots that require separate controllers and custom integration, each IR robot runs on the KraussMaffei MC6 control system—the same platform that governs the injection molding machine. This unified architecture means a single teach pendant, one programming environment, and coordinated robot-plus-IMM motion sequences out of the box.

Which mounting configuration fits your IMM?

Four mounting variants cover the most common injection molding layouts. Floor-mounted (F) suits large horizontal work envelopes with complex peripherals. Shelf-mounted (S) positions the robot above large-tonnage IMMs for high-volume part removal. Wall-mounted (W) saves floor space and reduces cycle times via lateral approach. Machine-integrated (I) embeds the robot directly into the IMM frame—ideal for cleanroom applications and layouts where external pedestals are impractical.

How do payload and reach scale across the series?

The IR Series spans 8 kg to 210 kg payload, with reaches scaling from approximately 1,600 mm to over 2,000 mm depending on model. The lower end handles medium-payload demolding and packaging. Mid-range models tackle multi-cavity tool extraction. The upper end addresses large-part handling such as automotive bumpers and structural components. All variants share the same 6-axis kinematics, KUKA-sourced mechanical base, and MC6 control architecture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the IR Series be used outside injection molding?

Yes. While optimized for IMM integration, the IR Series performs standard material handling, assembly, and packaging tasks. The MC6 control system can operate in standalone mode without an IMM connection.

Does the MC6 support third-party end-of-arm tooling?

Yes. The MC6 provides standard I/O and communication interfaces for grippers, vision systems, and conveyors. KraussMaffei also offers turnkey end-of-arm tooling as part of its automation packages.
