Product Description
The Siemens 6SL3520-1XB01-1AB0 is the standard I/O variant of the SINAMICS G115D wall-mounted distributed drive family, rated at 1.1 kW with a 380–480 V 3-phase supply. Designed for decentralized conveyor applications, this variant operates without a fieldbus — speed commands are issued via hardwired digital inputs — making it a cost-effective choice for standalone conveyors and simple multi-step-speed applications that do not require PLC network integration.
When is hardwired control the right choice for a distributed drive?
Not every conveyor needs PROFINET. The standard I/O variant suits applications where the control architecture is relay-based or uses a basic controller without a fieldbus network, the operating profile is covered by fixed speeds or multi-step-speed selection via the four programmable PNP digital inputs, and installation simplicity is the priority — wiring a few digital inputs is faster than commissioning a PROFINET network. The drive supports the full G115D control range — V/f, V/f with FCC, and sensorless vector control — so motor performance is identical to the fieldbus variants. Only the setpoint delivery method differs.
What motor types are supported?
The drive delivers 3.1 A rated output current (High Overload) with 200% overload capability — 6.2 A for 3 seconds and 150% for 57 seconds. It supports IE3 three-phase asynchronous motors, IE4 synchronous reluctance motors, and pre-configured SIMOGEAR geared motor combinations. Output frequency spans 0–550 Hz in V/f mode and 0–240 Hz in vector mode, with pulse frequency adjustable from 4 to 16 kHz in 2 kHz steps. The integrated 180 V DC brake control output drives an electromechanical motor brake directly — no external rectifier needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between AB0 and AA0?
Both are non-fieldbus variants of the G115D. The AA0 is designated as the I/O Control variant with a specific terminal configuration. The AB0 is a standard I/O variant with a different connector arrangement. Electrically and functionally they are equivalent — same power ratings, same I/O count (4 DI, 2 configurable DI/DO), same control modes. The choice typically depends on which connector type matches your existing cabinet or field wiring standard.
Can this drive be upgraded to PROFINET later?
The communication interface is determined by the hardware at order — it cannot be field-upgraded from standard I/O to PROFINET. If there is a chance your application will need networked control in the future, select the AF0 (PROFINET) variant upfront. The PROFINET variant can still accept digital input commands as a fallback, giving you both options in one device.
Is an external braking resistor required?
The drive includes an integrated brake chopper. For most horizontal conveyor applications with moderate stopping requirements, the internal 180 V DC brake control is sufficient to manage an electromechanical motor brake. An external braking resistor (minimum 200 Ω for FSA frame) is only needed for high-inertia loads or applications with frequent emergency stops that exceed the internal chopper's thermal capacity.
