The Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus 7 (2711P) is an operator interface terminal — a panel-mount touchscreen that runs FactoryTalk View ME to show live process data and let operators command the machine. It is the standard HMI faceplate for CompactLogix and ControlLogix lines.

Standard or Performance — which terminal?

Standard terminals run Windows CE 6.0 with 4–15″ TFT, 512 MB RAM, and a single Ethernet port plus DLR — enough for a local operator station. Performance terminals run Windows 10 IoT Core, 7–19″, 4 GB RAM, and dual Ethernet for a larger, more connected station. Choose Standard when the screen is a single local point; choose Performance when you need more screen real estate and network redundancy. The alternative — a separate PC with a runtime license — costs more and adds a failure point at the panel.

What happens when the network cable fails?

Both variants use DLR (Device Level Ring) on the EtherNet/IP side, so a single cable break does not isolate the operator station — the ring heals and the screen stays live. The alternative — a star topology with one uplink — blanks the HMI the moment that one cable is cut, halting the operator's view of the process.
