Product Description

Thermal process automation often presents a frustrating contradiction: the recipes are complex, but the tools to manage them shouldn't be. The Pixsys ATR421 addresses this by packing sophisticated multi-cycle programming capability into a familiar 1/8 DIN panel-mount format that operators and technicians already know how to use. It is a controller designed to run kilns, environmental chambers, and industrial dryers without requiring an engineering degree to set up or a PLC budget to purchase.

The programming model is refreshingly direct. You define up to 15 named cycles, and within each, you assemble a sequence of up to 45 steps. Every step is simply a choice—ramp up, hold steady, or ramp down—followed by a target setpoint and a duration. There are no abstract function codes or cryptic register addresses to memorize. This makes it practical for a lab technician to create a new annealing profile on Monday morning, or for a production supervisor to tweak a drying curve without calling in automation support.

Industrial thermal processes are unforgiving of power interruptions. A kiln mid-fire or a test chamber hours into a humidity profile represents significant material investment and time. The ATR421 incorporates a Cycle Recovery feature that, upon power restoration, intelligently determines where the process was interrupted and resumes from a safe, logical point rather than aborting the entire run. Complementing this is a Step-End Wait function, which pauses program progression if the actual temperature strays too far from the target, preventing the controller from blindly advancing to the next segment when the process is not ready.

Behind the front panel, the hardware is configured for the realities of industrial wiring. A single universal input accepts virtually any common sensor—from base-metal thermocouples on a furnace to a 4-20mA transmitter on a process line or even a simple potentiometer for manual setpoint adjustment. The output side provides up to four relay contacts, each capable of switching 8A at line voltage. These are not fixed-function; any output can be assigned as a primary control action, a deviation alarm, or an auxiliary event trigger. An RS485 port running Modbus is standard, allowing the controller to report process values and accept remote setpoint changes from a PLC or SCADA system. For setups involving multiple identical machines, a memory card slot enables parameter cloning in seconds, eliminating repetitive keypad entry.

Power flexibility is another practical consideration. The ATR421 accepts anything from 24V DC in a mobile or battery-backed installation up to 230V AC mains, with full galvanic isolation between the supply and the measurement circuitry. This wide range reduces the need to stock multiple controller variants and simplifies panel design. The front panel, when fitted with an optional gasket, meets IP65, making it suitable for dusty factory floors or washdown areas common in food and pharmaceutical drying applications.

In essence, the Pixsys ATR421 occupies a pragmatic middle ground. It provides the recipe management and automation features of a much larger system, but it does so in a form factor and at a price point that make it accessible for single-zone thermal processes. It is less about complex integration and more about giving a single furnace, oven, or chamber the autonomy to execute its work reliably and repeatably, even when unattended.
