Product Description
The SINAMICS G120X 6SL3230-3YE14-0AP0 is the second step in the FSA frame — 1.5 kW for quadratic-load pump and fan duty, in the smallest physical envelope the G120X platform offers. At 73 mm wide, it takes exactly half the DIN rail of the next frame up. For a pump skid with four drives, the width saved by four FSAs over four FSBs is roughly one additional drive slot. C2 EMC filtering is built into the drive housing — no external filter module to mount, wire, and ventilate alongside the VFD, and no extra panel width consumed by a side-by-side filter arrangement.
How much cabinet space does FSA actually free up?
The G120X frame break happens at the 3→4 kW boundary: FSA spans 0.75 kW to 3 kW at 73 mm wide, while FSB starts at 4 kW at 140 mm wide — nearly double. In practice, this means a cabinet row of six FSA drives occupies 438 mm of width; the same row in FSB occupies 840 mm. The difference is half a meter of cabinet panel — enough to matter when the MCC is already at its physical width limit. The trade-off is in the fan arrangement: FSA relies on natural convection with an internal fan, suiting the moderate switching frequencies typical of pump applications. FSB and above use higher-airflow forced cooling for the higher power density. For 1.5 kW at pump switching frequencies (2–4 kHz), FSA's thermal design is more than adequate.
What does the 110%/60s overload rating actually mean for pump selection?
The G120X carries a Low Overload (LO) rating: 110% of rated current for 60 seconds, with a 240-second recovery at 100%. This is the standard duty cycle for centrifugal pumps and fans, where the torque follows a quadratic curve and starting current settles to rated within seconds. The drive can deliver 4.8 A rated and 4.3 A nominal (I2N). For comparison, a general-purpose drive with a High Overload (HO) rating of 150%/57s at the same frame size would derate to approximately 1.1 kW — the G120X's LO rating gives you a full 0.4 kW more usable motor power at the same physical size because it assumes pump duty, not constant-torque conveyor duty. Sizing the wrong overload class — picking an HO drive for a pump — leaves power on the table and costs cabinet space for no benefit.
Is the built-in C2 EMC enough, or do I need C1?
C2 (formerly "industrial environment, Class A") is the correct EMC category for drives installed in a dedicated electrical room or cabinet, fed from a transformer that does not supply residential loads. For the overwhelming majority of pump stations, water treatment buildings, and HVAC plant rooms, C2 is sufficient and is what the 0AP0 suffix delivers — integrated, tested, and wired at the factory. C1 (residential/light-industrial conducted emissions) requires additional filtering and is available on separately ordered G120X variants. The practical test: if the drive's supply transformer also feeds office lighting or domestic premises, you need C1. If it's a dedicated industrial supply, C2 is correct and the integrated filter saves the cost, panel space, and commissioning time of an external filter module. PROFIBUS DP is integrated on the standard control unit; installations requiring PROFINET need an external gateway or a different control unit option.
