Product Description

The Siemens 6SL3520-0XC03-0AA0 is the I/O Control variant of the SINAMICS G115D wall-mounted distributed drive family in the 0XC connector configuration, rated at 3 kW — the highest fanless power rating in the G115D range. With 7.7 A rated output (High Overload) and a 380–480 V 3-phase supply, it targets mid-duty conveyor sections — accumulation zones, merge lines, incline belts — where 3 kW of mechanical power is needed but a fieldbus network is not. The FSB fanless frame (425 × 180 × 134 mm) dissipates heat via natural convection, eliminating the fan as a wear item and keeping noise to zero at the drive itself.

What does I/O Control mean at 3 kW?

I/O Control is the hardwired command interface — four programmable PNP digital inputs accept 24 V DC speed, direction, and enable signals directly from pushbuttons, relays, or a basic PLC output card. At 3 kW, this covers a significant slice of material handling: pallet conveyors, merge beds, incline sections up to approximately 15° for medium-weight goods. Commissioning is via Mini-USB with TIA Portal Startdrive or via SD card — once parameters are set, day-to-day operation requires only the hardwired I/O and a 24 V DC control supply (250 mA typical for FSB fanless). No PROFINET network, no switch, no PROFIsafe configuration — just wire, power, and run.

When is hardwired control the right choice at 3 kW?

Not every conveyor section justifies a fieldbus node. I/O Control at 3 kW suits applications where the control architecture is relay-based or uses a basic controller without a PROFINET network, the operating profile is covered by fixed speeds or multi-step-speed selection via the four digital inputs, and the mechanical power requirement is 3 kW — enough for a 200 kg pallet on an incline section or a 50 m accumulation zone. The drive delivers the full G115D motor control suite — V/f, V/f with FCC, and sensorless vector control — so the motor starts smoothly and holds speed under load, identical to the PROFINET variant. Only the setpoint delivery method differs.

What motor types are supported?

The drive delivers 7.7 A rated output current (High Overload) with 200% overload capability — 15.4 A for 3 seconds and 150% for 57 seconds. It supports IE3 three-phase asynchronous motors, IE4 synchronous reluctance motors, and pre-configured SIMOGEAR geared motor combinations up to 3 kW. Control modes include V/f (linear, quadratic, parameterizable), V/f with Flux Current Control for improved low-speed torque, and sensorless vector control for precise speed regulation without an encoder. Output frequency spans 0–550 Hz in V/f mode and 0–240 Hz in vector mode, with pulse frequency adjustable from 4 to 16 kHz in 2 kHz steps. The integrated 180 V DC brake control output drives an electromechanical motor brake directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 0XC connector differ from 1XB and 0XD?

All three are G115D connector systems for the same drive platform. 0XC (position 10 = C) is the FSB-frame connector variant; 1XB (position 10 = B) spans both FSA and FSB frames depending on the variant code; 0XD (position 10 = D) is FSA only. Electrically, drives with the same power and communication variant are identical across connector systems. The choice depends on which connector matches your existing pre-assembled cable sets or facility wiring standard. The three connector types can be mixed on the same conveyor line.

Can this drive be upgraded to PROFINET later?

The communication interface is determined by the hardware at order — it cannot be field-upgraded from I/O Control to PROFINET. If there is a chance your application will need networked control in the future, select the AF0 (PROFINET) variant upfront — it can still accept digital input commands as a fallback, giving you both options in one device. At 3 kW, the cost difference between AA0 and AF0 is a small fraction of the total installed cost when you factor in the conduit, mounting, and commissioning labor.

Is an external braking resistor required?

The drive includes an integrated brake chopper with a 180 V DC brake control output. For most horizontal and moderate-incline conveyor applications, the internal brake management is sufficient to control an electromechanical motor brake. An external braking resistor (minimum 130 Ω for FSB frame) is only needed for high-inertia loads, frequent emergency stops, or steep decline sections where regenerative energy exceeds the internal chopper's thermal capacity.
